DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica's women's tennis team blanked Bethany Lutheran College on Friday outside at the Marshall School to improve to 9-0 in the UMAC and capture at least a share of regular season conference crown.
Doubles Competition:
No. 1 doubles team of Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) and Jessica Solberg (Bemidji, Minn. /Bemidji HS) collected a victory with a score of 8-1 for the tandem's 17th win of the season. In the No. 2 spot, Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and Alexia Brascugli (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) handled their opponents easily as well, winning 8-4. Risako Oya (Chiba, Japan /ShowaGakuin Shuei HS) and Kelly Neil (Mora, Minn. /Mora HS) beat the No. 3 Vikings team 8-4 to round out the doubles matches.
Singles Competition:
The final scores among the singles roster were nearly identical across the board. Solberg, playing in the No. 1 singles spot, won 6-0, 6-1. Elise Hauer (Duluth, Minn. /Duluth East HS) (No. 2), with the same score of 6-0, 6-1, won her match. In the No. 3 spot, Daniela Rojas (Monterrey, Mexico /Universidad Tecmilenio) was victorious with a score of 6-1, 6-0.
Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn. /Armstrong HS) (No. 4) beat her opponent 6-1, 6-1 for her 10th singles victory in a row. Neil, in the No. 5 spot, won 6-1, 6-0, and finally, Taylor Hays (Altoona, Wis. /Altoona HS) blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 to finish the day.
