Women's Tennis Defeats Midland and Bethany Lutheran

OWATONNA, Minn. (csssaints.com)- The St. Scholastica's women's tennis team trumped Midland University (Neb.) 8-1 Saturday morning in a neutral meeting. The Saints then went on to play Bethany Lutheran College in a conference match Saturday afternoon, winning 9-0.

The Saints began Saturday with a considerable 8-1 victory over the Warriors.

CSS swept doubles play for the eighth time this season. The No. 1 duo of Jessica Solberg (Bemidji, Minn. /Bemidji HS) and Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) won 8-2. The No. 2 team consisting of Elise Hauer (Duluth, Minn. /Duluth East HS) and Daniela Rojas (Monterrey, Mexico /Universidad Tecmilenio) beat out their opponents 8-6. St. Scholastica's Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and Alexia Brascugli (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) was the No. 3 team, winning 8-4.

The Saints lost one single match in this contest. Scanlan (No. 1), Solberg (No. 2), Hauer (No. 3), and Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn. /Armstrong HS) (No. 4) won in straight sets. Brascugli (No.5) won in an eight-game pro set.

The Saints ended Saturday afternoon with a match score of 9-0, sweeping the Vikings.  

CSS has now swept doubles for the ninth time this season. Solberg and Scanlan (Team No. 1), Hauer and Rojas (Team No.2) and Moriah Branick (Eau Claire, Wis. /Eau Claire Regis HS) and Taylor Hays (Altoona, Wis. /Altoona HS) (Team No. 3) all won.

For singles, Solberg (No.1), Scanlan (No. 2), Hauer (No. 3), Coryell (No. 4), Rice (No. 5) and Kelly Neil (Mora, Minn. /Mora HS) (No. 6) won in straight sets for the Saints sweep.

CSS (10-5, 4-0 UMAC) will be in action tomorrow at the University of Minnesota Morris. Start time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
