csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team extended its winning streak to seven matches on Sunday after victories over the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
CSS 5, UWEC 4
The Saints earned their first victory over the Blugolds since the 2011 season with 5-4 win to begin the day.
CSS was able to grind out a pair of doubles wins to carry momentum into singles play. The No. 1 team of
Jessica Solberg (Bemidji, Minn. /Bemidji HS) and
Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) won for the seventh straight time by a score of 8-4. The No. 3 team of
Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS)
Alexia Brascugli (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) edged their opponents in a tiebreaker 9-8 (8-6).
Eau Claire won two of the first three singles matches to finish. Rice won for St. Scholastica at the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-3.
Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn. /Armstrong HS) then gave the Saints a 4-3 lead in the dual with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph at the No. 5 spot.
Scanlan would clinch the dual victory for the Saints at the No. 2 spot, rallying from a set down to win in a third set super-breaker 4-6, 6-2, (10-7).
CSS 9, UWRF 0
The Saints concluded play on Sunday by rolling over UW-River Falls 9-0.
The No. 1 tandem of Solberg and Scanlan won 8-1. That was the same victorious score for the No. 3 duo of Rice and Brascugli. The No. 2 team of
Daniela Rojas (Monterrey, Mexico /Universidad Tecmilenio) and
Elise Hauer (Duluth, Minn. /Duluth East HS) won by a final score of 8-2.
Solberg (No. 1) came out on top 6-4, 6-0. Scanlan (No. 2) won by scores of 6-2, 6-0. Hauer (No. 3) finished off her opponent 6-2, 6-4.
Rojas (No. 4) responded after a close first set to win going away 6-4, 6-1. Coryell (No. 5) won her 19
th match of the season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Finally, Rice (No. 6) did not drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win.

The Saints (14-5) will be back in Duluth next weekend for a pair of conference matches against North Central University on Saturday and the University of Minnesota Morris on Sunday. Both matches will take place at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.
