Notables-UMAC Game of the Week-Saints snap a four-match losing streak to the Eagles
DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team defeated the University of Northwestern 7-2 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Game of the Week on Saturday at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.
Doubles:The Saints got off to a great start in what head coach
Wells Patten described as "the best doubles performance of the year" as CSS swept all three matches.
The No. 1 team of
Jessica Solberg (Bemidji, Minn. /Bemidji HS) and
Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) won 8-1. The No. 2 duo of
Elise Hauer (Duluth, Minn. /Duluth East HS) and
Daniela Rojas (Monterrey, Mexico /Universidad Tecmilenio), along with the No. 3 tandem of
Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and
Alexia Brascugli (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS), each won by 8-3 scores.
Singles:With the doubles sweep, the Saints needed only two singles wins to claim the dual match. CSS knocked out the drama right away as
Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn. /Armstrong HS) blanked her opponent at the No. 5 spot 6-0, 6-0 and Rice sealed the match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at the No. 6 spot.
Scanlan then had a solid win at the No. 2 spot 6-2, 6-2 and Hauer was the final winner on the day for St. Scholastica winning 6-2, 7-5 at the No. 3 spot.
Up Next:The Saints (4-2, 2-0 UMAC) will face the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse next Saturday at the Lifetime Fitness in White Bear Lake. Action is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
