ST. PAUL (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team had a chance to clinch at least a share of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season title on Saturday, but fell at the University of Northwestern 6-3 and will finish second in the league.

Doubles:
Just like the first matchup in Duluth, the Eagles were able to take two of the three doubles matches, winning at No. 1 by an 8-5 score and No. 3 by an 8-3 margin. The lone CSS winners was the No. 2 team of Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and Miki Samz (Savage, Minn. /Burnsville HS) also by an 8-3 score.

Singles:
With only one doubles victory, the Saints needed to win four of the six singles matches and nearly accomplished it. Northwestern was too strong at the top two flights and took those matches in straight sets.

However, Daniela Rojas (Monterrey, Mexico /Universidad Tecmilenio) (No. 3) and Katie Kingston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) (No. 4) each won their matches by 6-4, 6-4 scores. It came down to the No. 5 and No. 6 flights. The Saints won the first set at No. 5, but would ultimately fall in a super-breaker 3-6, 6-3, (10-5). The Saints would also force a super-breaker at No. 6, but fell by scores of 6-3, 4-6, (10-7).

Up Next:
The Saints (12-9, 6-2 UMAC) will be the No. 2 seed in next weekend's Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament. CSS will face Martin Luther College in the semifinals on Friday at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
