DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team blanked Bethany Lutheran College 9-0 in its final home match of the 2015 season on Friday night at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.
Doubles:The No. 1 team of
Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) and
Daniela Rojas (Monterrey, Mexico /Universidad Tecmilenio), as well as, the No. 2 duo of
Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and
Miki Samz (Savage, Minn. /Burnsville HS) won by the same 8-1 score. The No. 3 team of
Katie Kingston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and
Alexia Brascugli (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) shut out their opponents 8-0.
Singles:Gunderson (No. 1),
Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn. /Armstrong HS) (No. 4) and
Halle Nystrom (Fargo, N.D. /Fargo North HS) (No. 5) swept their opponents 6-0, 6-0. Scanlan (No. 2) won 6-0, 6-1, while
Olivia Bretting (Ashland, Wis. /Ashland HS ) (No. 6) came out on top 6-1, 6-0. The final winner was Rojas (No. 3) by scores of 6-2, 6-0.
Up Next:The Saints (12-8, 6-1 UMAC) will face the University of Northwestern tomorrow in St. Paul in the regular season finale. If the Saints defeat the Eagles, they will clinch at least a share of the conference regular season title. If they fall, Northwestern captures the title. Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
