DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team got back on track in the UMAC as they swept both the Vikings of Bethany Lutheran and the Martin Luther Knights on Saturday afternoon.
CSS 9, Bethany Lutheran 0The first action of the day took place in Mankato where in singles competition,
Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) took care of the No. 1 singles match with a 6-1, 6-1 win.
Daniela Rojas (Monterrey, Mexico /Universidad Tecmilenio) would follow that up with a 6-2, 6-2 win in No. 2 singles.
Miki Samz (Savage, Minn. /Burnsville HS) and
Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn. /Armstrong HS) took care of their singles matches with 6-0, 6-1 victories as
Alexia Brascugli (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and
Halle Nystrom (Fargo, N.D. /Fargo North HS) rounded out the singles with their own win, both by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles CSS would continue to dominate the Vikings as the Rojas/Scanlan and
Katie Kingston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS)/Samz teams would both win by a score of 8-2 with the team of Brascguli/
Olivia Bretting (Ashland, Wis. /Ashland HS ) finishing off the sweep with a 8-0 victory.
CSS 9, Martin Luther 0The Saints then traveled the short distance to New Ulm to take on Martin Luther where their success continued.
In singles, Scanlan and Brascguli would take care of their matches again with 6-2, 6-1 victories as Rojas would come away with the 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 2s. Samz, Coryell, and Nystrom would finish up the rest of the Knights in convincing fashion.
In doubles, the teams of Scanlan/Rojas and Kingston/Samz both won their matches by scores of 8-3 with the Brascguli/Bretting team winning the last match 8-5 to complete the Saints' second sweep of the day.
CSS' record improves to 9-7 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
Up next will be a trip to Eau Claire, Wisconsin as the Saints will take on the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire on Sunday, April 19.
