Women's Tennis Drops a Close Match to Northwestern

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team fell to preseason conference favorite University of Northwestern 5-4 on Saturday at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.
 
Northwestern took two of the three doubles matches, taking the No. 1 and 3 flights. The No. 2 tandem of Miki Samz (Savage, Minn. /Burnsville HS) and Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) won 8-3.
 
The Saints won the bottom three flights in singles, but Northwestern wrapped up the match win after the fourth singles match.
 
Samz (No. 4) won 6-3, 7-5. Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn. /Armstrong HS) (No. 5) won 6-2, 7-5. The final winner was Katie Kingston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) (No. 6) 6-1, 7-6 (7-4). The No. 3 flight decided the match with Northwestern coming out on top 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, (10-7).
 
The Saints (7-7, 2-1 UMAC) will be at Bethany Lutheran College and Martin Luther College in two weeks on April 11.
