The story for the Saints was junior goaltender
Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) in net as he stopped a career-high 42 of St. Norbert's 43 shots to earn the victory. The Green Knights out-shot the Saints 43-18 for the game, including 34-11 the final two periods.
After a scoreless first period,
Keegan Bruce (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham HS (Weyburn-SJHL) ) put the Saints on the board first with a power-play goal five minutes into the second period.
Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ) and
Derek Hills (Campbell River, British Columbia/Timberline Secondary (Bowling Green State) ) were credited with the assists.
Mason Baptista of St. Norbert knotted it up at 1-1 with 8:30 remaining in the period. However, the Saints regained the lead before the second intermission with Bruce assisting
Matt Malenstyn (Surrey, British Columbia/Tamanawis Secondary (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) for an even-strength goal to make it 2-1. Tonight's game was Malenstyn's 100
th as a Saint.
St. Scholastica got another power-play goal with eight minutes to go in regulation when former Green Knight
Kyle Beaulieu (White Rock, British Columbia/Earl Marriott (St. Norbert)) lit the lamp for his first goal as a Saint to give CSS some cushion at 3-1.
Luke Simpson (Canmore, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Canmore-AJHL) ) assisted the tally. Bruggeman and the CSS defense held the rest of the way, defeating St. Norbert 3-1.
Tony Kujava had 15 saves in the loss for St. Norbert. Both teams combined for 12 penalties for 24 minutes.
