DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica women's tennis bounced back with an 8-1 win over Ripon College Friday night at Arrowhead Tennis Center after suffering its first loss of the season to St. Olaf last Saturday.
The Saints won all three doubles matches against Ripon.
Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) and
Daniela Rojas (Monterrey, Mexico /Universidad Tecmilenio) won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles against Maddie VanHouten and Kelli Walsh of the Red Hawks. At No. 2 doubles
Alexia Brascugli (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and
Olivia Bretting (Ashland, Wis. /Ashland HS ) defeated Courtney Olson and Lucero Pena 8-0. St. Scholastica's No. 3 team of
Halle Nystrom (Fargo, N.D. /Fargo North HS) and
Katie Kingston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) were given a victory by default with Ripon not playing a team.
CSS won five of six singles matches and won five in a row after Ripon's Maddie VanHouten defeated
Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) in a super breaker 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 1 singles.
Miki Samz (Savage, Minn. /Burnsville HS) (No. 2) won 6-1, 6-0 and then
Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn. /Armstrong HS) took No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-0.
Halle Nystrom (Fargo, N.D. /Fargo North HS) (No.4) won 6-2, 6-2 followed by
Risako Oya (Chiba, Japan /ShowaGakuin Shuei HS) (No. 5) won her match 6-3, 6-2.
