DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team won 7-2 in its first non-conference match of the season against the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of
Madeleine Scanlan (St. Albans, England /Loreto College) and
Daniela Rojas (Monterrey, Mexico /Universidad Tecmilenio) soundly defeated their opponent 8-2. The No. 3 team of
Miki Samz (Savage, Minn. /Burnsville HS) and
Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn. /Armstrong HS) also defeated their Bulldog opponents 8-6. The team of
Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and
Katie Kingston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) closed out the sweep in doubles with a score of 8-5.
In singles play, it was Gunderson (No. 1) starting off the victories with scores of 6-4, 6-0. Scanlan (No. 2) followed up with a 6-1, 6-3 win over her opponent. Kingston (No. 3) came through with yet another win over the Bulldogs by a score of 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6). Coryell (No. 6) closed out the Saints victorious play with a 6-1, 6-3 win in her match-up.
The Saints will face Hamline University next Saturday at 1:30. The match will be held in Virginia at the Quad Cities tennis courts.
