PREVIEW: Home-and-Home this Weekend for Men's Hockey

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team will have its final regular season home game on Saturday against Northland College, but before that, it will be in Ashland to face the LumberJacks Friday night.

The Saints are coming off their first series sweep since the beginning of November, taking two game from Lawrence University (Wis.) last weekend … CSS fell behind on both contest, but scored a combined 10 consecutive goals to rally to victory.
 
Hockey For Heart: The Saints in conjunction with the Essentia Health Foundation will be holding a Hockey for Hearts event Saturday at Mars Lakeview Arena … For the second straight week, the Saints will wear special uniforms that will be auctioned off … Here is more information on the event.
 
Senior Night: The Saints will honor four seniors Saturday night … Captain Dave Williams (Okotoks, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) and defenseman Matt Malenstyn (Surrey, British Columbia/Tamanawis Secondary (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) have been cornerstones for the Saints the past four seasons … Derek Hills (Campbell River, British Columbia/Timberline Secondary (Bowling Green State) ) joined the Saints as a transfer last season and is playing some of his best hockey as of late … Goaltender Connor Lucas (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS ) has been CSS' third goaltender all four seasons and has seen little playing time, but has consistently been a favorite in the locker room with his dedication to the team all four years.
 
Where They Stand: The Saints continue to be in fourth place, three points ahead of fifth place MSOE and four points behind third place Lake Forest College … Conference leaders St. Norbert College and Adrian College are six points ahead of the Saints and play each of this weekend … There are six games left in the regular season.
 
Great Weekend for Nowakowski: Junior Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ) recorded six points in last weekend's sweep of Lawrence … In Friday's win, he scored back-to-back goals to change a 1-0 deficit to a 2-1 lead … Then on Saturday, he scored with CSS down 2-0 and then assisted the game winner … He is currently tied for third in the league with 15 assists … It marks the third straight year he has recorded at least 15 assists in a season.
 
Getting Better on the PK: Opponents are 2-for-20 on the power-play in the last four games … The penalty-kill success rate has climbed from .758 to .793 in that span.
 
Between the Pipes: Junior goaltender Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) is fourth in the conference in goals-against-average (2.03) and save percentage (.925) … He has allowed two goals or less in each of his last five starts.
 
Light the Lamp: The Saints have been shut out three times this season, which is the most since the 2007-08 season … CSS was last shut out four times in a season in 2004-05.
