Late Runs Lift Coe over Saints

| By:
Box Score CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team and 11th-ranked Coe College (Iowa) were scoreless through the first 4.5 innings at Friday's NCAA Division III Cedar Rapids Regional, but the Kohawks plated a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to defeat the Saints 3-0.

The Saints finished with just two hits in the contest. Kara Warren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) had one of the two hits with a double in the top of the first. That was the only time the Saints had a runner on second for the game.

Chrisi Mizera (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East HS) pitched for the Saints and got out of jams through the first four innings. The Kohawks stranded seven runners through the first four innings.

Mizera then got the first two batters out in the fifth. However, Coe followed with two straight singles and on the second single, a CSS throwing error allowed a run to come home and give the Kohawks a 1-0 lead.

Coe then had a pair of RBI singles in the sixth to make it 3-0. The Saints went down in order in the seventh to make the final score 3-0.

Mizera struck out four in six innings and allowed seven hits. Mizera also issued seven walks. Maddison Woodruff had eight strikeouts to earn the win for the Kohawks. Tiff Hudack (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) had the other hit for the Saints.

Coe will face No. 22 Augustana College (Ill.) who defeated the No. 13 University of St. Thomas 7-1 to open the regional.

The Saints (27-11) see their program-record 21-game winning streak come to an end. They will face St. Thomas in an elimination game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
