Box Score CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (csssaints.com) – For the second straight day, three late runs doomed the St. Scholastica softball team as its season came to an end with a 7-4 loss on Saturday to No. 13 University of St. Thomas at the NCAA Division III Cedar Rapids Regional.

The Saints, who were held to just two hits against Coe College (Iowa) on Friday, got off to a good start offensive on Saturday. Tiff Hudack (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) led off with a double. Later in the inning, Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) had a RBI single to make it 1-0. Molly Jazdzewski (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) then singled and Kara Warren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) scored on an error to make it 2-0 CSS after one inning.

The Tommies had a RBI single in the third to cut the CSS lead to 2-1. In the bottom of the frame, the Saints had runners at second and third, but would leave the runners stranded.

St. Thomas took its first lead in the fourth with a two-out, two-run double by Meg DuPuis to make it 3-2. Emily Gregory of the Tommies then hit a solo home run in the fifth to extend the lead to 4-2.

The Saints responded in the bottom of the fifth as Chrisi Mizera (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East HS) helped her cause with a RBI single to bring in Warren. Sydney Gordon (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) followed with a RBI double to plate Logergren and tie the game at 4-4.

A walk, sacrifice and wild pitch eventually led to a sacrifice fly as the Tommies regained the lead at 5-4 in the sixth. After CSS went down in order in the sixth, St. Thomas tacked on two more runs on a two-run home run by Gregory to make it 7-4. The Saints would get a runner on in the bottom of the seventh, but that would be it as the Tommies prevailed 7-4.

Mizera went the distance again for the Saints, striking out four in the loss. Kendra Bowe came in relief for the Tommies to get the win. Logergren and Mizera each had two hits apiece as the Saints out-hit the Tommies 10-9.

The Saints (27-12) say goodbye to three seniors: Hudack, Shauney Moen (Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS) and Ally Sweeney (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS). For future news about the St. Scholastica softball program, keep checking csssaints.com.
