PREVIEW: Softball Hosts UMAC Tournament this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – After a one-year hiatus due to weather, the St. Scholastica softball team is once against hosting the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Softball Tournament this weekend at Kenwood Field.

There has been change to original schedule as only the first round games will be played on Friday. Three games will then be played on Saturday before the championship is decided on Sunday. The tournament is double-elimination and the winner receives the automatic qualifier into next week's NCAA Division III Tournament.

#2 Minnesota Morris vs. #3 Northwestern – 2 p.m.
#1 St. Scholastica vs. #4 Northland – 4 p.m.

-Northwestern comes into the tournament as the third seed. They have won their last three conference games, but ended the regular season with a loss to St. Catherine on Wednesday. The Eagles will take on Minnesota Morris in their first game of the tournament.
-The Eagles offense is led by Jennifer Ankrom. She has a .472 batting average (fourth in the UMAC), three home runs, and 42 RBI (tops in the UMAC). Ankrom is currently on pace to have the best individual batting average in a Northwestern uniform since 2003.
-Kaylee Forcier leads the team with four home runs. Megan Threlkeld is second on the team with 37 RBIs (tied for third in UMAC).
-Ankrom and Threlkeld lead the team when in the batter's box with runners in scoring position. Ankrom has a .491 average with at least a runner on second base.
-Lauren Silbernick is the top pitcher for the Eagles. She has nine wins on the season (tied for second in the UMAC), and a 5.75 ERA.

Series History: (CSS is 43-9 vs. Northland)
-The Saints got in two out of a scheduled three games against the 'Jills this season. They won both of those games by scores of 11-9 and 13-2 in five innings.
