Saints Finally Play on Home Field

Extend Home Winning Streak to 22 Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com)—For the first time since May 5, 2012, the St. Scholastica softball team played on Kenwood Field, its actual home field, and beat North Central University and the University of Northwestern on Tuesday to extend its winning streak to 12 games.
 
St. Scholastica 22, North Central 1 (F/5)

The first inning saw 11 hits, including four doubles. North Central scored its only run on a solo home run by Megan Myers in the bottom of the first.
 
The Saints picked up two more runs in the top of the second inning on a RBI double by Rendi Johnson (Bonney Lake, Wash./Bonney Lake HS) and a RBI single by Emily Schiro (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Armstrong HS).
 
A Becca Zwak (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) two-run double and a Schiro two-RBI triple in the top of the third made the score 18-1. Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) had a drove in two runs with a triple in the fifth as the Saints wrapped up the game, winning 22-1.
 
Leaders for the Saints at the plate include Schiro who was 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Rendi Johnson (Bonney Lake, Wash./Bonney Lake HS) went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Hannah Borgeson (Woodville, Wis./Baldwin-Woodville HS) went 3-for-4 and Logergren drove in for runs.
 
Johnson earned the win with eight strikeouts, one walk, and only allowing two hits.
 
St. Scholastica 8, Northwestern 0 (F/5)
 The Saints got off to a quick start again against the Eagles, scoring four runs in the first en route to an 8-0 victory in five innings.
 
After holding the Eagles scoreless in the top of the first, the Saints came up to bat and scored four runs in the bottom frame. Three of the four runs came on a Kara Warren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) three-run home run.
 
CSS added two more runs in the bottom of the third. Logergren had a sacrifice fly, plating Molly Jazdzewski (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) and Kasandra McCabe (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter HS) had a RBI groundout to make it 6-0.
 
Johnson had a sacrifice fly in the fourth to send in Sydney Gordon (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) to extend the lead to 7-0. Warren ended the game early with leadoff home run to center to make it 8-0 and concluded the contest by mercy-rule in five innings.
 
Warren had a pair of home runs that totaled four RBIs. She also scored three runs. Tiff Hudack (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
 
Chrisi Mizera (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East HS) earned the win pitching five innings and only allowing two hits, two walks and recording eight strikeouts.
 
The Saints have won 22 straight games in Duluth, dating back to the 2011 season.
 
The Saints (17-10, 12-0 UMAC) will be in action again tomorrow when thy travel to Ashland to face second-place Northland College in doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
