Box Score 2 DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – Head Softball Coach
Jen Walter picked up her 400th career win at The College of St. Scholastica as the Saints swept a doubleheader from Bethany Lutheran College on Friday in the home opener on the turf of Saints Field.
Game 1: CSS 6, Bethany Lutheran 3Game one saw the Saints rally from a three-run deficit to win on a
Kara Warren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to give Coach Walter her 400th win.
Walter becomes the third St. Scholastica Head Coach of any sport to record at least 400 wins at the school.
Bethan Lutheran jumped ahead by scoring one run in the top of the first and two more in the top of the third, all of which on Nicole Starkson home runs.
In the bottom of the fourth, a home run by
Kasandra McCabe (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter HS) put the Saints on the board to make it 3-1.
The Saints continued to hold Bethany Lutheran to three runs the rest of the game, thanks to a season-high 13 strikeouts by freshman pitcher
Chrisi Mizera (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East HS).
In the bottom of the fifth,
Rendi Johnson (Bonney Lake, Wash./Bonney Lake HS) hit a sacrifice fly to center, which scored
Cayla Fogle (Oakdale, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) to make it 3-2.
It remained 3-2 until the bottom of the seventh. The inning started with a ground rule double to right center by
Sydney Gordon (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS).
Emily Schiro (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Armstrong HS) was put in to run for Gordon on second base.
Tiff Hudack (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) then hit a double scoring Schiro to tie the game.
Johnson followed with a single to left field pushing Hudack to third base. With runners on first and third Warren stepped to the plate and hit a walk off home run to make the final score 6-3.
Leaders at the plate for the Saints include Warren and Gordon who both went 2-for-3. Mizera earned the win only allowing five hits.
Game 2: CSS 6, Bethany Lutheran 0 In game two the Saints kept the momentum on their offense, scoring five runs in the first two innings.
Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) hit a single in the bottom of the first to score
Molly Jazdzewski (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS). In the bottom of the second Hudack hit a grand slam bomb down the left field line to make it 5-0.
Warren added a RBI double in the fourth to make it 6-0 and that is all pitcher
Micah McGuiness (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) needed as she finished with 10 strikeouts to earn the shutout.
Leaders for the Saints include Hudack who went 2-for-4 and Logergren who went 2-for-3.
The Saints (12-10, 6-0 UMAC) were scheduled to play Martin Luther College in a doubleheader at Saints Field tomorrow, but those games have been postponed due to a wet and chilly forecast. Sunday's home games against Northland College and the College of Saint Benedict are still scheduled to be played.
