Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The St Scholastica softball team had its three-game winning streak come to an end Saturday with a 5-2 loss to Muskingum University (Ohio) and a 5-4 loss in extra innings to Hiram College (Ohio).

CSS 2, Muskingum 5
The Saints started the day with a 5-2 loss to Muskingum Saturday morning.

The Saints got the scoring started in the bottom of the second. Kara Warren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) led off by doubling out to left field. Later in the inning, Becca Zwak (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) drove in Warren with a single giving the Saints a 1-0 lead.

The Saints stayed ahead until the Fighting Muskies fought back with four runs in the top of the fifth. Hannah Teese tripled down the third base line scoring Ava Bova and Carissa Johnson.  Kayley Bevard and Resse also scored unearned runs off a Saints error making it 4-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Saints came out swinging as Kasandra McCabe (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter HS) doubled to right center followed by a hit by Warren for the RBI making it 4-2. However, CSS stranded runners on second and third.

The Muskies added an insurance run in the seventh to take the game 5-2.

Chrisi Mizera (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East HS) pitched all seven innings for the Saints with eight hits, three walks, and three strikeouts. Ashley Gilbert pitched five innings for Muskingum and had 10 hits, one walk, and two strike outs.

CSS 4, Hiram 5 (F/8)
For the third time on the trip, the Saints went to extra innings in their second game of the day. However, CSS would suffer its first extra inning loss as Hiram scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth to win 5-4.

Once again the Saints took the early lead in the top of the third.  Tiff Hudack (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) made it to second off a single and throwing error by Hiram shortstop Kayla Schmidt.  Rendi Johnson (Bonney Lake, Wash./Bonney Lake HS) advanced the runner and McCabe followed with another a RBI single.

Hiram returned swinging in the bottom frame.  Jessica Wahl singled followed by a bunt by Sarah Loyer that put both runners in scoring position.  Hits by Nicole Zhou and Jess Bolanz scored the runners to end the inning 2-1 with Terriers in the lead.

The CSS offense missed opportunities as it had runners on second and third in three of the first four innings, but came away with only one run.

Action picked up again in the bottom of the sixth. Hiram added two more runs in the inning to extend its lead to 4-1.

The Saints entered the seventh trailing by three runs in their final at-bats.  Hudack, Johnson, and McCabe all came out swinging to load the bases to start the inning.  Hannah Borgeson (Woodville, Wis./Baldwin-Woodville HS) singled out to center field to score two for the Saints to make it 4-3. Cayla Fogle (Oakdale, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) entered to punch run for Borgeson and scored off another error by Hiram to tie-up the game at 4-4. The Saints would leave the bases loaded in the inning. The Saints held the Terriers to end the seventh and entered into extra innings.

Dana Perotta was placed on second for international tie-breaker rules after the Saints failed to score in the top of the eighth.  Danielle Latine walked and advanced to second as Perotta was tagged out trying to steak home. A hit by Schmidt scored Latine for the Terriers and the Saints walked away with a 5-4 loss.

Johnson went the distance for the Saints in the loss. She also led the CSS offense with three hits.

The Saints (6-6) are next in action Saturday, March 29th in Pella, Iowa against Washington University-St Louis and Central College.
