Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team split on Tuesday, beating Anna Maria College (Mass.) and falling to Meredith College (N.C.).
CSS 12, Anna Maria 4 (F/5)
The Saints began the day by defeating Anna Maria 12-4 in five innings for their third straight win.
The Saints started strong with two runs in the first inning. With one out,
Rendi Johnson (Bonney Lake, Wash./Bonney Lake HS) hit a double, and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. With Johnson on third,
Kara Warren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Johnson.
Kasandra McCabe (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter HS) followed by hitting her first home run of the season over the left field fence.
The Saints continued by scoring five more runs in the second inning. Warren hit a home run to account for three of the five runs. Johnson and
Molly Jazdzewski (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) also had RBIs in the inning.
The AMCATS scored three in the bottom of the second and then added one more in the third to make it 7-4, but the Saints got three of those runs back in the fourth. Jazdzewski hit a solo home run in that inning.
A Warren RBI double in the top of the fifth made it an eight-run CSS lead. The Saints closed the game in five by sitting down the AMCATS in order.
In the five-inning game the Saints only had one scoreless inning in the third. Leaders for the Saints include Johnson who went 3-for-4, Warren went 2-for-2, and Jazdzewski went 2-for-3. Warren finished with six RBIs. Johnson (2-1) also earned the win on the mound.
CSS 0, Meredith 13 (F/5)
In their second game of the day, the Saints suffered their first loss of the trip to Meredith College 13-0.
Defense let CSS down in the loss as it committed six errors. Only four of the 13 runs were earned. The Avenging Angels scored four runs in both the third and fourth innings, while adding five more in the fifth.
The Saints were no-hit in the loss and did not have their first base runner until the start of the fifth inning.
Micah McGuiness (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) is marked with the loss, but only allowed four earned runs.
The Saints (3-3) will take on Wheaton College (Ill.) for a second time tomorrow at 3 p.m. (ET) and Wesleyan University (Conn.) at 5 p.m. (ET).
