PREVIEW: Men's Basketball in Iowa this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team will start what will be a long road stretch as it heads down to Iowa to play in the Buzz Levick Tournament at Wartburg College. The Saints will be taking on the host team, Wartburg, on Friday night. The other participants are a couple of familiar foes for the Saints, Crown College and the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

The Saints look to get into the win column this weekend after losing both of their games last weekend by four points ... CSS also has a chance to get revenge on UWS after losing to them just a week ago.

Slow Starts: The Saints were hurt by slow starts in both of their games last weekend, as they gave up a 9-0 and a 7-0 run in to start both games.

Comeback Kids: CSS was able to overcome its slow starts with big second halves, including coming back from a 19-point deficit with a little under seven minutes to get within four against UWS.

Balanced Scoring: The Saints have had a balanced offensive attack so far this season, having three players score in double figures in their first game and four players in the second game… The Saints bench have helped as they contributed more than 20 points in both games last weekend… The Saints have been led by Jake Naslund (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) and LaMonte Hall (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS (Saint Mary’s)) who are averaging 16 and 10.5 points per game early on in the season.

Series History: The Saints are 1-1 against Wartburg, with the Knights taking the last meeting back in 2005… CSS is 11-33 against UWS, the Yellowjackets won the last matchup last Sunday… The Saints are 27-4 against Crown, as they split the season series last year.

Wartburg College Knights
Wartburg returns one starter and 10 letter winners from last season's team… Sophomore guard Jordan Cannon was the Knights' second leading scorer last season, averaging 10.4 points per game while shooting 48.5 percent from the field and 34.2 percent from behind the arc… Senior post Clay Cook average 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while shooting a team-high 53.2 percent from the floor… The Knights have played a game already this season, beating Moody Bible Institute by a score of 88-43.

University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets
The Yellowjackets are coming off a 80-70 loss against UMD on Tuesday night… UWS had four players in double figures in the loss, led by Brian Lindblom's 17 and Ty Ketz's 14 points… Johnquez Brooks had seven assists in the game… Ketz leads the team in scoring early in the season, averaging an even 20 points a game, followed Lindblom's 14.5 a game… UWS beat the Saints last weekend by a score of 83- 79… The Yellowjackets will be taking on Crown in the first game on Friday night.

Crown College Storm
The Storm are looking for their first win of the season, losing their first two games to Macalester and Augsburg by scores of 65-60 and 95-55… James Brown leads the team in scoring with 15.5 points a game… Austin VanDerHeyden is averaging a double-double with 13 points per game and 10 boards a game… Crown has been struggling from the free throw line, hitting only 53 percent of their free throws.
