DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The eighth-ranked St. Scholastica men's hockey team will put its undefeated record on the line when the Saints travel to Hancock, Michigan to take on Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) rival Finlandia University in their first road trip of the season.

Derek Sutliffe (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School (Langley Rivermen-BCHL) ) currently leads all NCHA skaters with six goals on the season…Sutliffe has shown an ability to score in a variety of ways as he has two power-play goals, one shorthanded goal, and three even-strength goals so far this season…Sutliffe also recorded a hat-trick in the Saints 7-3 victory over MSOE on November 1

Power Play Paying Early Dividends: CSS has scored a power-play goal in all but one of its four games this season…The Saints power play is currently ranked fourth in the NCHA in power play percentage (26.7) having converted four out of 15 opportunities with the man-advantage.
Staying Out of the Box: While the power play has been a source of strength for St. Scholastica early on, the opposite is true for the penalty kill…The Saints have given up five power play goals this season and are ranked near the bottom of the NCHA in penalty kill percentage (70.6).
Bruggeman Steady in Net: One big reason for the Saints early success this season is the play of starting goaltender
Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) )…Bruggeman started the first three games for CSS to open the season posting a 2.33 goals-against average to go along with a .928 save percentage that is fourth best in the conference.
Third Period Team: CSS has been at their best this season during the third period of games…In the third period the Saints have scored eight of their 19 total goals this season, while only allowing three goals-against.
Series History: CSS holds an all-time record of 4-0 against Finlandia University with three of the four wins coming at home…This is will be the first time the Saints will play a two-game series on the Lions home ice.
Finlandia University LionsThe early season schedule has not been kind to the Lions who have started out the year 0-3…Finlandia opened the season against No.2 UW-Stevens Point in an 11-0 loss…The Lions then traveled to De Pere, Wisconsin were they were swept by an undefeated and a No. 1 St. Norbert team that scored 19 goals in the two-game series, while Finlandia only managed one…Sophomore forward Scott Vargas has scored the only goal for the Lions this season.
