PREVIEW: Men's Hockey Takes on Northland this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team will play Northland College this weekend in a home-and-home Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) series.

- Last weekend the Saints split its series against Lawrence University (Wis.) with a 4-1 win Friday and 3-2 loss Saturday.
- Derek Hills (Campbell River, British Columbia/Timberline Secondary (Bowling Green State) ) has recorded three goals in the last four games, including the game winner on Friday.
- The Saints have not played at home since a December 14th loss to St. Thomas.
- Five of Brandon Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial HS (Calgary Royals-AJHL))'s team-leading 10 goals this season have come on the power play.
- The Saints are ranked 13th in the NCAA Division III for power play and sit in the number one spot for combined special teams.
- Goaltender Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) holds the third spot in the NCHA conference for saves percentage (.922) in league games.
- CSS has committed the fewest penalty minutes in the league this season (227).
- The Saints are 8-0-2 when leading after two periods this season, but are 0-3-2 when trailing.

- Last weekend the Jacks were swept by Marian University (Wis.).  The last win for the Jacks was when they played at Finlandia (1/17).
- The LumberJacks rank seventh in the conference in scoring offense (2.42 goals/game) and are last in the league in scoring defense (5.58 goals/ game).
- The Northland special teams are at the bottom as well with a .111 power-play percentage and a .670 penalty-kill success rate.
- Goaltender Mason Riley leads the NCHA with the most saves (508).
- Louis Labbe leads the Jacks in goals (7) and is runner-up with points (16).  Mike Lennon is the team leader with 17 points.

- The Saints have only allowed 20 goals in 13 games against the LumberJacks.
