This weekend's UMAC Tournament moved to Morris, Minn.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team concluded its regular season by hosting its first and only home contests of the year, which saw the Saints sweep Northland College by scores of 13-1 and 15-4 on Senior Day in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) doubleheader held on Saints Field Wednesday afternoon.

It was also the home finale today as it was announced Wednesday afternoon that the location of this weekend's UMAC Tournament would be moved to Morris, Minn. The Saints were supposed to host the tournament, but due to forecasted precipitation and low temperatures, the decision was made Wednesday afternoon to move it to Morris.

In game one, Northland tallied it's only run of the game in the opening inning as Jayna Loy homered to left field to put the 'Jills up 1-0.  CSS would answer in the bottom of the inning when Bonnie Kowalczyk (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls HS) hit a three-run home run to score Micah McGuiness (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and Tiff Hudack (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) making the score 3-1 after one inning.

The Saints would add four more runs in the second inning, one coming off a Hudack RBI-double which scored Sydney Gordon (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) and then Kowalczyk would hit her second homer of the game scoring Rendi Johnson (Bonney Lake, Wash./Bonney Lake HS) and Hudack to make the score 7-1.

Hudack would pick up her second hit of the game in the third inning, a RBI single, scoring Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)).  The Saints would lead 8-1 after three innings of play.

Kara Warren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) would keep the bats going with a RBI-double in the top of the fourth scoring Kowalczyk.  A Logergren two-RBI double would score Ally Sweeney (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) and Kasandra McCabe (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter HS) to make the score 11-1.

Paige Stalboerger (Dilworth, Minn./Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton HS) would complete the scoring in the fourth inning with a two-run blast scoring Logergren to make the final score 13-1 (F/5).

Northland (14-21, 9-12 UMAC) managed just five hits for the game and committed one error in the field.  Loy took the loss on the mound allowing 10 hits and eight earned runs.

CSS finished with 15 total hits, three coming from Kowalczyk.  Kowalczyk finished the game with a career best six RBIs.  The Saints were only struck out once during the game.

Johnson picked up her seventh win of the year, pitching a complete game five-hitter allowing one earned run and fanning four LumberJill batters.

The second contest of the day once again saw the 'Jills plate a run in the opening inning off of a fielder's choice.  CSS would respond in the bottom of the inning once again as Johnson started the scoring with a RBI-double scoring Hudack.  Kowalczyk would double the next at-bat to score Johnson and McGuiness.  Warren would hit a three-run homer a few batters later followed by a Shauney Moen (Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS) sacrifice hit scoring Gordon to make the score 7-1 in favor of the Saints after just one inning.

McCabe would hit a two-run shot in the second inning making the score 9-1.  Northland would tally two runs in the fourth inning.  The Saints would respond in the bottom of the fourth after Molly Jazdzewski (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) and Hudack each hit a pair of two-RBI doubles to put the Saints up 13-3.  Emily Schiro (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Armstrong HS) would finish the inning with a RBI single to put the Saints up 14-3.

The 'Jills would tally a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning, but the Saints would claim the mercy rule and come out victorious 14-5.

Northland finished with seven hits in the game and committed no errors on defense.  Loy pitched the whole second game, allowing 12 hits and 14 earned runs.  Loy has appeared in every game on the mound for the 'Jills this season.

Three Saints finished the game with two hits as the team finished with 12 total hits.  Kowalczyk and McCabe would lead the Saints with three runs scored apiece.

CSS would take four walks while striking out twice.  Darcy Roach (East Grand Forks, Minn./Sacred Heart HS) picked up her eighth win of the season pitching a complete game allowing seven hits and five runs, four earned.  Roach finished the day with two strikeouts.

The Saints celebrated Senior Day, honoring Bonnie Kowalczyk (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls HS) and Darcy Roach (East Grand Forks, Minn./Sacred Heart HS).

St. Scholastica (24-12, 17-4 UMAC) is the No. 1 seed in the upcoming UMAC Postseason Tournament. CSS will play Bethany Lutheran College to open the weekend with start time scheduled for noon on Friday.  Tune into csssaints.com for updates from these games.
