Box Score 2 NEW ULM, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team dispatched Martin Luther College in a rescheduled Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) doubleheader winning both games by scores of 8-0 and 5-0 Sunday on the campus of the Knights.
Game two featured another near perfect game for the Saints. The two victories allowed CSS to remain in first place in the UMAC standings.
In game one, the Saints struck first in the top of the second inning as
Sydney Gordon (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) singled to score
Bonnie Kowalczyk (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls HS) to make the score 1-0.
Tracy Roach (East Grand Forks, Minn./Sacred Heart HS) would double a few batters later scoring Gordon and
Ally Sweeney (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS). Later in the inning,
Micah McGuiness (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) flied out to center to score Roach.
Rendi Johnson (Bonney Lake, Wash./Bonney Lake HS) would hit a sacrifice fly of her own to score
Shauney Moen (Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS) to make the score 5-0 in favor of the Saints.
CSS would add more runs in the following inning as the Saints would tally a run on a bases loaded walk and then after a
Tiff Hudack (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) hit to center field, Roach and Gordon would score their second runs of the game to make the score 8-0.
Martin Luther (17-13, 11-8 UMAC) was unable to find the scoreboard in the game and only could muster three hits, while committing two errors in the field. The Saints would take game one by a score of 8-0 in five innings.
CSS was led by Kowalczyk,
Kara Warren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS), and Gordon with two hits apiece.
Tracy Roach (East Grand Forks, Minn./Sacred Heart HS) led all batters with three RBIs. The Saints did not strike out in the game.
Johnson pitched a complete game three hitter for CSS. She had one strikeout while walking three Knight batters.
In game two, the teams were scoreless thru two innings until the Saints' Hudack scored in the top of the third inning on a fielder's choice. Gordon would score later in the inning on an error by the Knight first basemen to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Saints.
In the following inning, Roach would double to score
Molly Jazdzewski (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) to extend the lead to 3-0. CSS would add on two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh as Johnson would single to score Moen and a Kowalczyk double would score Johnson to make the final score 5-0.
It was another near perfect game for a Saints pitcher as
Darcy Roach (East Grand Forks, Minn./Sacred Heart HS) pitched a one-hitter. The one hit led off the fourth inning. Roach's sister, Tracy, pitched a perfect game yesterday against the Knights. Darcy pitched 79 total pitches forcing seven groundouts and seven fly outs. Darcy would fan seven Knight batters in the game.
On offense, Hudack, Johnson, Kowalczyk, Jazdzewski, and T. Roach would all have two hits apiece. Johnson would have two RBIs for the game.
St. Scholastica (22-11, 15-3 UMAC) will face Northland College tomorrow in Ashland for one game at 5 p.m. Tune into csssaints.com for an update from this game.
