Box Score 2 NEW ULM, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team is now riding a five game win streak as they routed Crown College 17-1 in game one and behind a historic perfect game in game two by
Tracy Roach (East Grand Forks, Minn./Sacred Heart HS), the Saints defeated Martin Luther 6-0 to sweep the final two games at the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Crossover held on the campus of Martin Luther Saturday afternoon.
In the game against Crown, CSS tacked on seven runs in the first three innings to make the score 7-0 as
Bonnie Kowalczyk (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls HS) collected four RBIs in that span. The Storm would add a run in the fifth inning to make the score 7-1 but CSS would put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh inning as they would plate 10 runs to win 17-1.
Crown (0-24, 0-20 UMAC) finished the game with six hits but did commit three errors in the field.
For the Saints,
Kara Warren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS), Kowalczyk,
Paige Stalboerger (Dilworth, Minn./Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton HS), and
Tracy Roach (East Grand Forks, Minn./Sacred Heart HS) had two hits apiece. Ten other batters had a hit for the Saints who collected 18 total hits in the game.
Emily Schiro (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Armstrong HS) led CSS with four RBIs along with Kowalczyk.
Tiff Hudack (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS),
Rendi Johnson (Bonney Lake, Wash./Bonney Lake HS),
Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)),
Shauney Moen (Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS), Schiro, and Roach all scored two runs apiece in the game.
Micah McGuiness (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) pitched a complete game six hitter allowing only one earned run. McGuiness fanned eight Storm batters while walking only one batter. The CSS defense did not commit an error in the game.
In game two, the Saints took on Martin Luther who was ranked fourth in the UMAC coming into the game while the Saints still remained atop the standings.
CSS struck first in the opening inning as Kassandra McCabe singled to score Johnson to make the score 1-0. In the third inning, McCabe would hit a sacrifice fly to score McGuiness to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Saints.
The Saints would tack on three runs in the fourth inning as Roach singled to score Moen for the first run, Logergren would score a few pitches later on a wild pitch to score the second, and Roach would score on an error by the left fielder to make the score 5-0.
McGuiness would tally her third hit of the game to score Hudack to make the score 6-0 in the sixth inning. The Saints would hold off the Knights to win 6-0.
The story of the game was pitcher
Tracy Roach (East Grand Forks, Minn./Sacred Heart HS), as she completed a perfect game bid for the Saints. It would be the first perfect seven inning game in program history and the fourth overall. Roach pitched 66 pitches while striking out five batters in the process.
Martin Luther (17-11, 11-6) was held hitless for the first time this season. The Knights committed three errors in the game.
CSS was led by McGuiness with three hits. Warren and Johnson had two hits apiece to aid the Saints offensive attack. The Saints were walked once while striking out just once.
St. Scholastica (20-11, 13-3 UMAC) will face Martin Luther in a rescheduled doubleheader tomorrow to close out the 2013 regular season. Game one is slated to start at 11 a.m. local time. Tune into csssaints.com for updates from these games.
