Box Score 2 ROSEMOUNT, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team fell to the Northwestern College Eagles for the second time this season as the Saints lost by a score of 7-3 in CSS's first game of the day, but the Saints were able to bounce back and defeat the North Central University Rams in the second contest by a score of 14-5 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action Tuesday morning in the Irish Dome.
In the game against Northwestern, the Saints struck first in the second inning as
Sydney Gordon (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) hit a sacrifice fly scoring Kassandra McCabe to put the Saints up 1-0. CSS would add two more runs in the third inning as
Molly Jazdzewski (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) singled to shortstop to score
Tiff Hudack (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) from third for a 2-0 Saints lead. McCabe was the next batter and after a single to left field, Jazdzewski scored on an error by the left fielder to put the Saints up 3-0.
NWC (13-16, 8-6 UMAC) would answer in the bottom of the third with a pair of RBI singles, one run coming off of a CSS throwing error. The Eagles would add more runs in the fourth after another RBI single scored a runner on a throwing error. A second, two RBI single would give the Eagles a 5-3 lead after four innings played.
The Eagles would add insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth off of a two-run home run. The Saints had one potential run in the top of the seventh inning but the Eagles held on to win by a score of 7-3.
The Saints collected eight total hits, two by McCabe. NWC finished with 11 hits. Each team was walked three times but the Saints were struck out six times compared to just three by the Eagles.
Darcy Roach (East Grand Forks, Minn./Sacred Heart HS) took the loss for the Saints, pitching five innings allowing nine hits, five runs; one earned, but did strike out three batters.

In game two of the day for CSS, the Saints faced a new UMAC affiliate in the North Central Rams. The Rams scored in the opening inning off of a two RBI double. The Saints would answer in the bottom of the inning after
Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) singled to left field to score Hudack from third. Jazdzewski would single later in the inning to score McCabe to tie the game up 2-2 after one inning of play.
The Saints would tack on three runs in the second inning as
Micah McGuiness (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) singled up the middle to score
Shauney Moen (Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS). Logergren hit a two RBI single a few batters later to score McGuiness and Hudack to put the Saints up 5-2.
NCU would answer the following inning to tie the game up at 5-5 after a two-run home run and a RBI single.
The Saints would then catch fire as they would post nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Four of these runs came off of home runs, a three run blast by Hudack and a solo shot from McCabe. The Saints would finish out the game and come out victorious by a score of 14-5 after five innings.
NCU (5-16, 3-12 UMAC) finished the game with five hits, four walks, but did commit two errors. Two Ram pitchers split time on the mound allowing 14 hits.
The Saints finished the game with 14 hits, no strikeouts, and four walks taken. Logergren led all batters with four hits and four RBI's. McCabe had three hits and three runs scored. Two other Saints had a two-hit game while Hudack led all runners with four runs scored.
Tracy Roach (East Grand Forks, Minn./Sacred Heart HS) picked up the win for the Saints, pitching a complete game five hitter. She allowed four earned runs, four walks, but did strike out 10 Ram batters.
St. Scholastica (16-11, 9-3 UMAC) will travel to New Ulm, Minn. this weekend for the annual UMAC Crossover where they will play
