Box Score 2 VADNAIS HEIGHTS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – In a doubleheader that started at 11 p.m. Saturday night the St. Scholastica softball team swept North Central University in its conference opener by scores of 13-2 and 12-3 in five innings.
The Saints got off to a nice start in game one as
Tiff Hudack (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) ripped a RBI double, while
Kara Warren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) and
Micah McGuiness (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) followed with RBIs to make it 3-0 after a half inning. After the Rams (2-9, 0-5 UMAC) plated a run in the bottom of half, CSS added three more runs in the second with RBIs from
Andrea Mogren (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS), Hudack and
Rendi Johnson (Bonney Lake, Wash./Bonney Lake HS) to make it 6-1.
After the teams exchanged runs in the third to make it 7-2, the next scoring didn't take place until the top of the seventh.
Lexi Smith (Hudson, Wis./Hudson HS) and
Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) each had two-run singles in the inning. Johnson and
Kasandra McCabe (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter HS) also had RBIs in the inning as in total the Saints had six runs come across to make the final score 13-2.
Darcy Roach (East Grand Forks, Minn./Sacred Heart HS) earned the win for the Saints, striking out four. Mogren went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and three stolen bases. McGuiness also had three hits in the game one win.
The Saints kept the offense going in game two early this morning. Logergren's grand slam in the top of the first led to a five-run inning. The Rams got two runs back in the bottom of frame, but it was a McCabe two-run homer that was part of a four-run second inning to make it 9-2.
Johnson registered RBIs in the third and fourth as the Saints won game two 12-3 by the mercy rule in five innings.
Johnson also struck out five in five innings to earn the win. Logergren finished with six RBIs, while
Sydney Gordon (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) went 3-for-3.
The Saints (9-8, 2-0 UMAC) will face Bethany Lutheran College later today in a doubleheader at the Irish Dome in Rosemount. First game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
