Box Score OSKALOOSA, Iowa (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team beat the weather and Gustavus Adolphus College 4-2 to begin Saturday, but the rains came and washed out the scheduled contest against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
The Saints began the day with their first win in Oskaloosa, a 4-2 victory over Gustavus. The Saints struck first in the top of the second as
Jordan Spiering (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) had a bases loaded RBI single to score
Kasandra McCabe (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter HS) and make it 1-0.
Emily Schiro (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Armstrong HS) followed with a walk and
Bonnie Kowalczyk (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls HS) hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 CSS.
The Gusties loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the third, but would only get one run across in the inning as the Saints' lead was 3-1. It stayed that way through a short rain delay and to the top of the seventh when
Lexi Smith (Hudson, Wis./Hudson HS) hit a RBI, scoring
Tiff Hudack (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) to make it 4-1. The Gusties scored one in the bottom of the seventh, but the Saints hung on for the 4-2 victory.
Darcy Roach (East Grand Forks, Minn./Sacred Heart HS) picked up the win for the Saints. Roach allowed six hits and struck out a pair in the victory.
The make-up date for the UW-Eau Claire rain out has not been announced. The Saints are scheduled to face the Gusties and Blugolds again at the end of the season at University of Minnesota's Jane Sage Cowles Stadium.
The next time the Saints (7-8) will be in action is up in the air. Monday's contest at Northland College has been postponed and CSS is scheduled to host Northwestern College next Saturday at Kenwood Field. Stay tuned to csssaints.com for schedule updates.
