Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 VANDAIS HEIGHTS, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica softball team opened the 2013 year in a doubleheader matchup against an experienced UW-River Falls team with four games already to there record and fell by scores of 5-2 and 10-0 (F/5) to the Falcons Friday afternoon at the Vandais Heights Sports Center.

In game one, the Saints started the year out strong on offense scoring two runs off of a Kasandra McCabe (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter HS) single that brought in Bonnie Kowalczyk (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls HS) and Ally Sweeney (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS).  The Falcons would respond in the bottom half of the inning plating four runs of their own.

The Saints' bats were held quiet for the remainder of the game as UW-RF was able to score another run in the bottom of the 5th inning off of a home run.  Both teams would be unable to generate any more offense as the Falcons took game one 5-2.

Darcy Roach (East Grand Forks, Minn./Sacred Heart HS) pitched a complete game for the Saints in the loss, allowing seven hits and four earned runs.  Roach had only two walks in the game.  Offensively, Tiff Hudack (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) had two of the four total hits for CSS.  The Saints had 12 strikeouts in the game.  CSS committed one error while the Falcons committed none.

The Falcons finished game one with seven hits while pitcher Abbie Morris pitched a complete game four-hitter.

In the second contest it was all UW-RF as the Falcons (5-1) plated eight runs in the first three innings to cruise to a 10-0 (F/5) win.  The Falcons were able to amass 14 hits and committed one error on defense.

The Saints had a tough time on offense in game two as Kara Warren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS), Rendi Johnson (Bonney Lake, Wash./Bonney Lake HS), and Sydney Gordon (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) each had a hit apiece.  The Saints were struck out seven times in game two.

Johnson, a freshman, took the loss in game two, her first ever collegiate start.  She allowed 11 hits and eight earned runs but did allow only one walk and had one strikeout as well.

St. Scholastica (0-2) will travel to Clermont, FL for its annual Spring Break trip on March 9th-16th.  The Saints will play ten games in six days as the first opponent will be Ripon College.  That game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. eastern time on Monday, March 11.  Tune into csssaints.com for updates from these games.
