Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – A night after the Waidacher sisters tied or set numerous program/national records, they were at it again Saturday afternoon as the St. Scholastica women's hockey team defeated Finlandia University (Mich.) 10-2 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play.
So last night, both
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) and
Isabel Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Graubunden Canton School (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) tied NCAA Division III record by each recording eight points. Nina tied a program record with five assists and Isabel set a program record with five goals.
Today, Nina would tie Isabel's goal record with five tallies and Isabel would break the program record and tie the NCAA Division III record with six assists. The Saints also matched last night's program record of 10 goals.
Just one goal was scored in the first period and that came with 34 seconds left as Nina found the net on the power-play to make it 1-0. Isabel had the assist.
The Lions (0-4-0, 0-4-0 NCHA) scored their first goal of the weekend one minute and seven seconds into the second period on an Alena Fiala goal.
Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) scored her first goal of the season five minutes in to give the Saints back the lead at 2-1.
Jana Henry (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Westgate HS (Thunder Bay Midget AA Queens)) also scored her first of the season, 15 seconds later to make it 3-1.
Madison Smith (Edmonton, Alberta/Vimy Ridge Academy (Spruce Grove Saints)) scored her first collegiate goal at 12:32 of the second period to extend the lead to 4-1.
Nina scored her second of the day with 12 seconds left in the period with Isabel and
Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) credited with the assists. Finlandia scored as the second period came to an end to make it 5-2 at the second intermission.
The Saints scored five goals in the third period, four of which came on the power-play. Nina scored three with Isabel and Fischer getting assists on all three.Logergren scored her second with Fischer and Isabel assisting to give Isabel six assists and Fischer five assists for the day. Isabel also added a power-play goal to round out the scoring.
For the weekend,
Isabel Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Graubunden Canton School (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) had 15 points and
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) had 13 points.
Freshman
Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) improved to 2-0 as she made 13 saves. Taylor Gustafson had 47 saves in the loss for the Lions. The Saints out-shot Finlandia 57-15, including 22-0 in the third period.
The Saints (3-0-1, 2-0-0 NCHA) will be on the road next weekend when they visit reigning NCHA Tournament champions St. Norbert College for a two-game set. First game is set for Friday at 7 p.m.
