Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The ninth-ranked St. Scholastica women's hockey team had eight different players score in an 8-2 victory over Lake Forest College (Ill.) Saturday at Mars Lakeview Arena.
Less than three minutes into the game the Saints began the scoring when
Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) scored, assisted by
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)). Less than 30 seconds later
Isabel Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Graubunden Canton School (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) lit the lamp, assisted by
Kelly Ahlgren (Hayward, Wis./Hayward HS).
Lake Forest put a goal up on the board at 8:20 of the first when Marissa Weber scored unassisted.
Cara McMannis (Holland, Manitoba/Treherne Collegiate Institute (Pembina Valley Hawks)) scored unassisted and shorthanded less than a minute later to give the Saints a two-goal lead. The Foresters outshot the Saints 20-10.
No scoring occurred in the second period until
Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS) took advantage of a power-play and gave the Saints its fourth goal of the game. Blair was assisted by Isabel and Nina.
A few minutes later Nina found the back of the net to give the Saints a 5-1 lead. She was assisted by sister Isabel and
Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS).
Taylor Guzzo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley HS (UW-River Falls)) scored her first of the season less than a minute later. Guzzo was assisted by
Brenna Smith (Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS). Saints out-shot the Foresters 10-9.
Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) had 28 saves after two periods.
Lake Forest switched out goaltender Stacey Dierking for Casey Hartfiel at the start of the third period.
In the period
Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS) added to the Saints lead by scoring her third of season, assisted by
Michelle Rebeck (St. Andrews, Manitoba/Balmoral Hall) and
Ivy Smith (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake HS (St. Cloud State)).
With four minutes left in the game,
Briget Cojocar (Limerick, Saskatchewan/Lafleche HS (Melville Prairie Fire)) scored her first goal of the season and on a power-play assisted by Guzzo and
Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)). The Foresters added a goal late to make the final score 8-2.
Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) had 43 saves in net for the Saints. Hartfiel is now in the lead in the NCHA with a save percentage of .929. Dierking saved 14 out of 20 shots and Hartfiel stopped 4 out of 6 shots in the third for the Foresters.
The Saints (6-0-2, 5-0-1 NCHA) will travel to Winona, Minn. for a non-conference game midweek against Saint Mary's University Tuesday at 7 p.m.
