Box Score MENOMONIE, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The 10th-ranked St. Scholastica men's hockey team saw a three-goal lead slip away in the second period, but
Paul Marcoux (Brandon, Manitoba /Vincent Massey Collegiate (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) netted the game-winner for the Saints midway through the third period to defeat the University of Wisconsin-Stout Friday night 4-3 in non-conference play.
CSS received its first goal with 5:38 left in the opening period as
Keegan Bruce (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham HS (Weyburn-SJHL) ) found the back of the net for the first time this season.
Dave Williams (Okotoks, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) had the assist. The Blue Devils out-shot the Saints 13-6 in the opening period.
The Saints came out strong in the second period as Williams scored 48 seconds into the period with Bruce getting credit for the assist.
Chad Golanowski (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll HS (Calgary Canucks-AJHL) ) made it 3-0 St. Scholastica four minutes later.
Alex Valenti (Blaine, Wash./Bellingham HS (Merritt-BCHL) ) had the assist.
However, the Blue Devils got back in it starting with a short-handed goal by Justin Moody about a minute after Golanowski's tally. Midway through the period Stout's Tyler Cayemberg made it 3-2. Stout eventually tied it on the power-play with a goal by Danny Ray as the score was 3-3 at the second intermission.
In the third period, CSS's top line would get its first goal of the night, which was the game winner as Marcoux was assisted by brothers
Brandon Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial HS (Calgary Royals-AJHL)) and
Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ) with 10:37 remaining. That is all goaltender
Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) would need as the Saints remained unbeaten with a 4-3 victory.
The Saints out-shot the Blue Devils for the game 34-29. CSS was 0-for-5 on the power-play, while the Blue Devils were 1-for-3.
Bruggeman made 26 saves to earn his third consecutive win. Corey Koop had 30 saves in the loss for the Blue Devils (2-5-0).
The Saints (5-0-2) will be back at Mars Lakeview Arena tomorrow night when they host Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior at 7 p.m. It will be Military Appreciation Night and anyone with a military ID will receive free entry. You can catch the action live on Saints Sports Net.
