Women’s Hockey Settles For Tie

Box Score EAU CLAIRE, Wisconsin (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team opened up its season in Eau Claire, Wisconsin Friday night with a 2-2 tie against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

The Blugolds jumped out to an early lead just a minute and a half into the game. CSS would tie up the game midway through the period as Isabel Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Graubunden Canton School (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) recorded her first goal as a Saint coming off assists from Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) and Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)),
Isabel's older sister.

The second period saw Eau Claire retake the lead about eight minutes in. CSS would tie it right back up four minutes later as Kaitlin Johnston (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater HS) scored with assists coming from Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS) and Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)).

The third period had action early and often as both teams had chances to take the lead. The Saints penalty kill came up big as they killed off a five-on-three power play for the Blugolds with about five minutes left in the game.

In the extra five minutes of overtime, the Saints dominated with several shots on net, but were unable to capitalize on any to end the game.

The Saints outshot the Blugolds 45-24 in the game. Sheridan Friesen (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Ontario Hockey Academy) made 22 saves for the Saints with Paige Turner making 43 saves for the Blugolds.

The Saints take on the Blugolds once again Saturday afternoon in Eau Claire with the face-off scheduled for 2 p.m.
