Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team was able to get two different one goal leads on the Lake Forest Foresters, but the Foresters would tie the game up at 2-2 with just over 90 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime where the Foresters would score just 50 seconds into the extra frame to down the Saints 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Mars Lakeview Arena.
The opening period saw the Saints get on the board first at the 12:23 mark with a goal from
Alana Levido (Richmond, British Columbia/Burnaby North Secondary (Pacific Steelers)).
Briget Cojocar (Limerick, Saskatchewan/Lafleche HS (Melville Prairie Fire)) and
Briana Stephens (Chicago, Ill./Hopkins HS (Minn.)) would assist on the even strength goal. Despite outshooting the Saints 21-7, the Foresters could not find the back of the net trailing CSS 1-0 heading into the first intermission.
Lake Forest (11-2-4, 8-1-4 NCHA) would finally tally a goal in the second period at the 14:02 mark on the power-play. The Saints would reclaim the lead at the 4:55 mark when
Gina Dodge (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) put home her own powerplay goal with assists going to Levido and
Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)).
The Saints would take a 2-1 advantage into the second intermission despite being outshot 34-17 thru two periods.
The third period had back and forth action and despite solid goaltending the Saints'
Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine/Brewster Academy (New England College)), the Foresters would find the back of the net with 92 seconds remaining in the contest to tie it up 2-2. Neither team would score in the final minute thus sending the game into the extra session.
Just 50 seconds into overtime the Foresters would find the net propelling them to a 3-2 victory over the Saints.
The Foresters managed to get a remarkable 59 total shots on net for the game including a 21-7 advantage in the first period. Lake Forest would finish 1-for-4 on the powerplay. Lake Forest goalie Stacie Dierking would stop 23-of-25 CSS shots on goal.
The Saints would finish the game getting 25 shots on net and would win the face-off battle 46-32. CSS was 1-for-2 on the power play.
White finished the game stopping 56-of-59 shots for the Saints.
St. Scholastica (9-7-3, 6-6-2 NCHA) will host UW-Eau Claire next weekend for a two game series at Mars Lakeview Arena. Game one on Friday is scheduled to start 7 p.m. local time. Tune into Saints Sports Net for live broadcast of the game.
