Box Score HANCOCK, Mich. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team blanked Finlandia University (Mich.) for the second time in less than 24 hours 8-0 to complete the sweep of the Lions Sunday afternoon.
Gina Dodge (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)), who recorded a hat trick last night, got the scoring started for the Saints this afternoon. Dodge netted a pair of goals two minutes and 20 seconds apart midway through the first period.
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) assisted both goals and
Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) also had an assist on the second goal.
Fischer later scored in the period to give CSS a 3-0 lead at the first intermission. Waidacher once again had the assist for her third assist of the period.
Jordy Klimek (Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) made it 4-0 with 11 minutes left in the second period.
Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) and
Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) were credited with the assists. Monika put the puck in the net twice later in the second period with Logergren getting the assist on the second goal to make it 6-0 at the second intermission.
Nina scored on the power-play one minute and eight seconds into the third period for her fourth point of the game. Fischer and
Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS) picked up the assists. Fischer has recorded two assists in each of the last three games and
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) has now scored at least one goal in the last five games that she has played in.
Briana Stephens (Chicago, Ill./Hopkins HS (Minn.)) recorded the final goal on the contest later in the third period to make the final score 8-0. Blair and
Kaitlin Johnston (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater HS) earned the assists.
The back-to-back shutouts are the first in program history. The four-game win streak is the second-longest in program history.
After its program-record 67 shots-on-goal performance last night, St. Scholastica outshot Finlandia 52-9 this afternoon.
Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine/Brewster Academy (New England College)) recorded her second straight shutout, stopping all nine shots she faced. Breanna Hayes had 44 saves in the loss for the Lions (0-14-0, 0-10-0 NCHA).
The Saints (9-4-2, 6-3-1 NCHA) will have a home-and-home series next weekend when they take on Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior. The Saints and Yellowjackets will open the series at Mars Lakeview Arena on Friday night at 7 p.m. Friday's game can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
