Johnson Sets Saints Record in Blowout of LumberJacks

| By:

The Duluth native recorded a program record 11 points, including seven in the first half

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica junior Rob Johnson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) set a program record on Tuesday afternoon, recording 11 points in the men's soccer team's 12-1 victory over Northland College at Saints Field.

The previous record had been 10 points, which occurred three times, most recently by Cody Sveiven also vs. Northland in 2010.

It didn't take long for the Duluth native and Duluth East grad to start racking up the points as he would assist Andrew Jenkins (Cardiff, Wales/Whitchurch HS) for the games' opening goal in the sixth minute. Johnson then tallied back-to-back goals six minutes apart in the 10th and 16th minutes to extend the CSS lead to 3-0.

Johnson recorded assists on the next two St. Scholastica goals, which were 40 seconds apart in the 24th minute. Erik Trochimchuk (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Hammarskjold HS) had the first goal at 23:10 and Jenkins got his second of the day at 23:50.

Trochimchuk scored again later in the first half and Brandon Scott (Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) recorded his first collegiate goal in the 32nd minute as the Saints led 7-0 at the half.

Johnson completed the hat trick one minute and 16 seconds into the second half for his ninth point of the day. After a Joe Watt (London, England/North West Kent College) goal, Johnson broke the program record with his 11th point and fourth goal to give the Saints a 10-0 lead. Jenkins also completed the hat trick in the 63rd minute to give CSS an 11-0 lead.

Tyler Frieders of Northland would put the 'Jacks on the board in the 81st minute off of a corner to make it 11-1.

With 7:27 left in the contest, the LumberJacks (0-5-0, 0-1-0 UMAC) would accidently put the ball in their own net to make it 12-1. Northland's coach, who was given a yellow card in the first half, would then be given a red card for misconduct directed towards the Saints bench. Since there was no assistant coach officially listed, the game was called with 7:27 remaining.

Adam Hewitt (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic HS) earned the win in net, playing the first half and making one save. Bryan Nyberg (Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS), in his first action of the season, made three saves in the second half. The Saints outshot the 'Jacks 31-7.

The Saints (3-2-0, 1-0-0 UMAC) will be back at home on Friday when they host Crown College at 4:30 p.m. at Saints Field. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
