PREVIEW: Softball to Close Regular Season with Non-Conference Doubleheader

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica softball team will finish the regular season on Monday night with a non-conference doubleheader against Gustavus Adolphus College at the University of Minnesota's Jane Sage Cowles Stadium.

Monday at 5 p.m.

The Saints went 4-0 at the UMAC Crossover in Ashland, Wis. on Friday and Saturday.

St. Scholastica Saints (29-8, 20-1 UMAC)
The Saints closed out conference play over the weekend at the UMAC Crossover … In the last game against the University of Minnesota Morris, CSS rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the sixth inning with three runs to tie it in the sixth and then in the bottom of the seventh Bonnie Kowalczyk (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls HS) led off with a walk-off home run to give the Saints the win … The victory not only extended the Saints' winning streak to a program record 19 games, but the home run broke assistant coach Rilee Dawson's record for RBIs in a season … Kowalczyk now holds the record with 52 RBIs this season … Also during the crossover, the Saints as a team broke the program record for stolen bases in a season as they now sit at 94 … The previous record was 91 … Theresa Tauer (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) broke the program record for doubles in a career (50) … She tied Laura Heise's record career RBIs with 151 … Tauer needs just six more hits to become the third player in program history to record 200 in a career … With just one more win, the Saints will record their first 30-win season since 2009 and the sixth under head coach Jen Walter.

Gustavus Adolphus Golden Gusties (26-8, 18-2 MIAC)
The Gusties have already clinched a MIAC playoff spot and has one more conference doubleheader against Saints Mary's University on Tuesday … Gustavus had won eight of their last nine games and are coming off a split against Augsburg College last Wednesday … The Gusties are ranked 29th in NCAA Division III in home runs per game (0.72) and are 32nd in doubles per game (1.88) … Gustavus is the best pitching team in the MIAC with a 1.84 team earned run average and are the only team to allow less than 200 hits this season … Lisa Klass leads the team offensively with .414 batting average and 15 doubles … The Gusties almost twice as many extra base hits than their opponents this season … Sarah Rozell is 14-2 inside the pitching circle this year with a 1.62 ERA … Kate Rentschler is the other pitcher used and she has a 2.10 ERA … Rentschler, along with Jen Ulmen, lead the team with five home runs.

The Gusties swept the Saints at Jane Sage Cowless Stadium in 2010 by scores of 7-0 and 11-2.
