Softball Sweeps Presentation in Battle of Saints

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ABERDEEN, S.D. – The St. Scholastica softball team was victorious on Saturday in two Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) games as it swept the Presentation College Saints 12-0 and 12-0, with both games ending in five innings at Manor Field.

In game one, the CSS Saints scored two runs in the second, third, and fifth innings but the real damage was done in the fourth where CSS put up six runs, two of them coming off a Theresa Tauer (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) two-RBI double.  CSS would win game one 12-0 in five innings.

The winning pitcher for CSS in game one was Darcy Roach (East Grand Forks, Minn./Sacred Heart HS) who pitched four innings allowing three hits while striking out seven batters.  Andrea Wick (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS) came in relief in the fifth, allowing one hit and striking out a batter as well.

CSS was led offensively by Tauer with three hits.  Shauney Moen (Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis HS) had two hits as well to go along with two runs scored.  Five other Saints had a hit and a run apiece as well.

In game two, both teams played exceptional for three innings with the CSS only scoring one run in the opening inning.  The damage came in the fourth inning when CSS put up eight runs followed up with three more runs in the fifth inning.  The PC Saints (7-22, 3-10 UMAC) only had two hits in game two and fell to CSS 12-0 in five innings.

Jordan Spiering (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) started game two for CSS, but only pitched one inning allowing one hit.  Roach came in for 2.1 innings and picked up the win allowing the only other hit.  Wick then relieved Roach for 1.2 innings of relief to finish the game.

Offensively for CSS, Molly Jazdzewski (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) led all batters with three hits and four RBI's.  Bonnie Kowalczyk (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls HS) also had four RBI's in the contest.  Six other players for CSS had at least one hit in the game. 

Up next for the CSS Saints (19-8, 10-1 UMAC) is a road matchup at Minnesota-Morris, who sits in second place in the UMAC standings, tomorrow afternoon in a doubleheader with game one to start at 1 p.m. local time.  Tune into csssaints.com for updates from the game.
