DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica softball team will make a short trek over the bridge to Wisconsin as they take on Twin Ports rival University of Wisconsin-Superior Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader.

The Saints are coming off an impressive weekend in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, winning four of six scheduled games, with the two other games being postponed due to weather.  The Saints saw Darcy Roach (East Grand Forks, Minn./Sacred Heart HS) win three times in three starts this past weekend.

St. Scholastica Saints (16-8, 8-1 UMAC)
CSS sits atop the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) with an 8-1 record … The Saints are currently riding a six-game win streak … The Saints have yet to lose at home this year … The Saints have outscored their opponents 44-5 in the second inning … Offensively, Bonnie Kowalczyk (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls HS) leads the team with a .468 batting average to go along with team highs in doubles (12), home runs (3), slugging percentage (.839), and runs batted in (31) … She also has the fewest strikeouts on the team with only three … Theresa Tauer (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) has the most hits with 31 and has the second best batting average at .403 … On the defensive side, Jordan Spiering (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) leads all pitchers with a 2.86 earned run average to go along with a 6-2 record … Roach has pitched 10 complete games and leads all pitchers with 74 strikeouts … As a pitching staff they have a 2.99 earned run average and hold opponents to a .244 batting average.

UW-Superior Yellowjackets (7-13, 1-5 WIAC)
UW-Superior had a tough start to the year going 6-8 during its spring break trip and have only won one conference game this year so far … UWS plays a conference doubleheader at UW-Stout today ... Wednesday's doubleheader will be the 'Jackets' home opener and they will not travel away from Superior for the rest of the regular season … Chelsey Jarzin leads the 'Jackets with a .442 batting average …  Taylor VanDamme has team highs with the most runs scored (16), total bases (41), hits (26), and slugging percentage (.594) … As a team, UW-Superior has a .296 batting average … On the defensive side, Amanda Le Bard leads the pitching staff with a 3.52 earned run average and holds opponents to a .295 batting average … The only other pitcher for the 'Jackets is Lingsay Garay who has a 6.22 earned run average and has only given up 14 walks … UW-Superior pitchers have a 4.51 combined earned run average and hold opponents to a .322 batting average.
