The CSS women's hockey team couldn't overcome an early deficit as they fell to the Lake Forest Foresters 4-2 on Saturday evening at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.

The matchup with the Foresters (14-9-2) marked the first playoff game in CSS history for the women's hockey program in just their second year as a varsity team.

The Foresters started off the scoring in the first period when Stephanie Slinde scored a power play goal late in the first period to give LFC a 1-0 advantage.  Emily Wybo and Angie Chronis were credited with assists on the play.  The score remained the same until the first intermission.

Lake Forest kept the scoring going midway through the second when Laura Reckdenwald scored from Chronis to make it 2-0 Foresters.

The Saints took advantage of a power play just 54 seconds later when Kaitlin Johnston (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater HS) scored St. Scholastica's first ever playoff goal unassisted to cut the LFC lead in half at 2-1.

The Foresters quickly answered at the 12:47 point when Wybo netted a goal of her own to give Lake Forest a two goal lead once again.  Marissa Weber was credited with an assist and the Foresters took a two goal advantage into the second intermission.

The Saints came out with some fire in the third when Malin Zetterberg (Stockholm, Sweden/Huddinge Gymnasium) found the net just 1:28 in to narrow the lead to one once again.  Angela Schlieske (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) and Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) earned assists on the play.

Lake Forest fought off the CSS surge just three minutes later when Jessica Dare extended the lead to two goals with an assist from Morgan Pope.

Neither team could find the net the rest of the game as the defenses stepped up and the Foresters downed the Saints 4-2.

Rachel Borchardt (Willow River, Minn./Willow River HS ) took the loss for CSS making 21 saves as her record falls to 2-3-2.

Johnston's goal was her second of the season as she now has eight total points while Zetterberg notched her third.  Fischer's assist now gives her 23 points putting her at third on the team behind the Waidacher sisters.

The Saints (13-8-5) will have another shot tomorrow afternoon in Lake Forest when they take the ice with the Foresters once again at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.  Go to csssaints.com for coverage information of the 5 p.m. puck drop.
