PREVIEW: Women’s Hockey Prepares for First Ever Playoff Game

In just the second year of the program the CSS women's hockey team will participate in the NCHA O'Brien Cup Playoffs this weekend in Illinois taking on the Lake Forest College Foresters in the quarterfinals.

Last Action: The Saints had a home and home series against the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets last weekend.  Each team won on the road as UW-S took down the Saints 4-2 in Duluth on Friday and the Saints won in Superior 4-3 in overtime on Saturday.

St. Scholastica Saints (13-7-5)
The Saints are preparing for their first ever O'Brien Cup Playoff appearance as the fifth seed capping off an impressive turnaround season…To get here the Saints earned at least three points in five conference series this year including sweeps of UW-Eau Claire, Finlandia and Marian… Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) came on to the scene strong this year leading the team and conference as a freshman with 36 points on 18 goals and 18 assists… Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) ended the season second in total points on both the team and in the conference as well with 29 on 11 goals and 18 assists… Captain Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) was third on the team with 23 points on seven goals and 16 assists and Jordy Klimek (Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) was the fourth player to surpass the 20 point mark as she sits with 22 on 10 goals and 12 assists… Rachel Borchardt (Willow River, Minn./Willow River HS ) has been the goaltender on record in every game since her return to the team and has earned a 2-2-2 record allowing just 1.97 goals per game and making 172 saves.

Lake Forest Foresters (13-9-2)
The Foresters began the season strong and were in position to go into the O'Brien Cup with the second seed before dropping three of their last four games and getting swept by Adrian allowing the Bulldogs to move into third and bump the Lake Forest down to fourth… Nonetheless the Foresters had an impressive season earning home ice advantage in the playoffs… LFC was led this year by Kim Herring with 22 points on 13 goals and nine assists… Herring was the only player to have 20 points or more.  Stephanie Slinde was second on the team with 18 points on six goals and 12 assists… Angie Chronis led the way in assists this year with 13… Stacey Dierking and Jenna Brankin split time in goal for the Foresters this year… Dierking earned a 7-5-2 record and Brankin was 6-4-0 while the pair had a combined 2.06 goals against average.

Last Meeting: (CSS All-Time Record vs. Lake Forest: 0-2-2)
The Saints and Foresters were involved in a couple of close battles a few weeks ago in Illinois.  The two teams tied 2-2 in the Saturday game and the Foresters eked out a 1-0 victory the following afternoon.
