Saints Capture Thrilling OT Victory; Sweep 10th Ranked UW-Stevens Point

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team came back to force overtime with a goal 15 seconds left in regulation and a goal by Alana Levido (Richmond, British Columbia/Burnaby North Secondary (Pacific Steelers)) 2:19 into the extra frame sealed a series sweep of 10th-ranked UW-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The opening period saw the Saints fall behind with a Pointer goal 15 minutes into the game.  The goal was on the power-play.  The Saints were unable to find the net in the first period, but did manage to get eight shots on goal.

A short-handed Pointer goal in the second period put the Pointers up 2-0, but once again the Saints were able to outshoot the Pointers 11-8 in the period.

The final period saw the Saints come to life with a goal from Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) with an assist going to Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS) eight minutes into the period.  The Saints would go on the power-play to finish out the game and with 15 seconds left in the game a power-play goal from Blair sent Mars Lakeview into bedlam and the Saints were still alive in another upset bid.  Brenna Flatley (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS) assisted on the game-tying goal.

In the overtime period, Alana Levido (Richmond, British Columbia/Burnaby North Secondary (Pacific Steelers)) sealed the weekend sweep just 2:17 into the extra session with assists going to Briana Stephens (Chicago, Ill./Hopkins HS (Minn.)) and Kelly Ahlgren (Hayward, Wis./Hayward HS).  The Saints would win 3-2 and complete a series sweep of UW-Stevens Point.

UW-Stevens Point (6-4-2, 5-3-2 NCHA) was able to get 25 shots on goal, were 1-for-5 on the power-play, and were charged for seven penalties for 14 minutes.

The Saints were able to garner 34 shots on net, were 1-for-7 on the power-play, and were charged for five penalties for 10 minutes.

The Saints out-shot the Pointers for the second night in a row and won 44-of-78 faceoffs.

The Saints (5-3-2, 4-3-1 NCHA) have off until 2013 when they get back to action January 4th at St. Olaf College.
