Women’s Hockey Suffers First Conference Loss of Season

Box Score GREEN BAY, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team scored two third period goals, but were unable to finish its comeback effort as St. Norbert received four goals from four different players, defeating the Saints 4-2 in the first of this weekend's two-game series.

St. Norbert jumped out to an early lead as Jade Popescul scored off of an assist from Danielle Rozon to put the Green Knights up 1-0 with three minutes left in the first period.

St. Norbert would receive their second goal shortly after as Brooke Nicholson tallied a goal just under a minute after Popescul's goal. Karissa Anderson was credited with the assist, putting the score at 2-0 after one period of play.

The Green Knights continued to apply the pressure in the second period as Zoe Kurth scored a power-play goal courtesy of assists from Lauren Roethlisberger and Popescul halfway through the period. Less than 30 seconds later, Andrea Senne found the back of the net off the pass from Katie Conlon, giving the Green Knights a 4-0 lead heading into the final period.

St. Scholastica would not be shut out however, as Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) scored off of the pass from Gina Dodge (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) four minutes into the period. The Saints added another goal with 11 minutes left as Briana Stephens (Chicago, Ill./Hopkins HS (Minn.)) added a goal to push the score to 4-2. Michelle Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) assisted on the Stephens goal. The Saints were unable to complete the comeback, as the score remained 4-2 at the final horn.

CSS goalie Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine/Brewster Academy (New England College)) made 27 saves in the loss for the Saints, who fall to 1-1-1 on the year (1-1-1 NCHA). For St. Norbert, Kaley Gibson made 36 saves in the winning effort, helping the Green Knights improve to 2-0-1 (1-0 NCHA).

The Saints look to turn things around in the second game of the series tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Green Bay.
