11th-Ranked Blugolds Hand Men’s Hockey Fourth Straight Loss

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team saw its losing streak extended to four straight games after a 5-1 defeat to No. 11 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at Mars Lakeview Arena in the home opener Friday night.

The Blugolds picked up their first goal of the game with 11:25 left in the opening period when Jordan Singer scored a power-play goal. That was the score at the first intermission with Eau Claire having a 12-6 edge in shots.

It was another power-play goal that put the Blugolds up 2-0 in the second period when Isaiah Bennis put the puck in the net midway through the period. Eau Claire added an even-strength goal with over five minutes to play in the period to extend its lead to 3-0 at the second intermission.

The Blugolds added two more even-strength goals in the first 10 minutes of the third period to make it 5-0. The Saints got on the board when Justin Krabben (Rocky Mountain House, Alberta/Hunting Hills HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) scored his first collegiate goal with eight minutes left to make the final score 5-1 in favor of the Blugolds. Chris Sinclair (Fort Frances, Ontario/Beaver Brae Secondary (Fort Frances-SIJHL) ) and Dave Williams (Okotoks, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) each had assists.

Colin Rundell (Tees, Alberta/Lacombe Composite (Alaska-Fairbanks) ) made 36 saves in the loss for the Saints, while Brandon Stephenson had 25 saves in the victory for the Blugolds. Eau Claire had a 41-26 edge in shots.

The Saints (1-4-0, 1-2-0 NCHA) and Blugolds (5-0-0, 3-0-0 NCHA) will go again tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Mars Lakeview Arena. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
