DULUTH, Minn. – Michelle Rebeck (St. Andrews, Manitoba/Balmoral Hall) skated around a couple of defenders was dragged down to the ice and still managed to flip the puck over the goaltenders shoulder to give the St. Scholastica women's hockey team a 4-3 victory Tuesday night over St. Olaf College at Mars Lakeview Arena.

Tonight's game was the first non-conference game of the season for the Saints. CSS also was without Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) and Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)), who are playing with the Swiss National Team at the Meco 6 Nations Cup. Nina had an assist in a Swiss loss today.

CSS controlled the puck for much of the game, outshooting the Oles 46-14. The Saints took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period on a Jordy Klimek (Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) goal. For Klimek it was the third straight game with a goal. Malin Zetterberg (Stockholm, Sweden/Huddinge Gymnasium) had the assist. St. Olaf tied the game with less than two minutes to go with a power-play goal by Lisa Tuuri to make it 1-1 at the first intermission.

The score didn't remain tied for long as Klimek scored again just 26 seconds into the second period to make it 2-1 CSS. Courtney Esse (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS (UW-Superior)) and Kaitlin Johnston (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater HS) had the assists. Two minutes later Jana Henry (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Westgate HS (Thunder Bay Midget AA Queens)) recorded her first goal of the season to extend the margin to 3-1. Briget Cojocar (Limerick, Saskatchewan/Lafleche HS (Melville Prairie Fire)) had the assist.

St. Olaf cut the margin to one goal with less than four minutes left in the period on a Kristen Latta goal. The Saints out-shot St. Olaf 17-3 in the second period and led 3-2 at the second intermission.

St. Scholastica continued to control the action in the third period with the puck constantly around St. Olaf's net and Oles having just two shots on goal in the period. However, with less than two minutes to play St. Olaf got a break out and after a scrum in front of the net Latta scored her second of the game to tie the game with 1:22 on the clock.

The Saints had one last chance in the waning moments as Rebeck gathered the puck near her bench took the puck into the offensive zone, blew around the defender, got tripped to the ground and from her stomach, lifted the puck past the goaltender for an unbelievable goal with 9.1 seconds left to give the Saints the 4-3 victory.

Sheridan Friesen (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Ontario Hockey Academy) earned her fourth victory of the season in net for the Saints, stopping 11 shots. Sam Ubl started the game for the Oles (4-4-3), but was pulled after allowing three goals. Ali McKeever then entered the game, but would take the loss after giving up the game-winning goal, but not before stopping 27 shots in 30 minutes of action.

The Saints (8-2-1) are now unbeaten in their last seven games and will fly out to New Hampshire tomorrow and will take part in the Saint Anselm College Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Manchester, N.H. The Saints will open with the host, Saint Anselm on Friday at 4 p.m. eastern time. They then will play Salve Regina (R.I.) on Saturday at 1 p.m. eastern time.
