Men’s Track & Field Runners Up Again at UMAC Outdoor Championships

MORRIS, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's track & field team placed second to host, University of Minnesota, Morris, on Saturday at the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The Saints finish second to the Cougars for the second consecutive year. CSS totaled 200.33 points, while the Cougars won with 239 points. The Saints ended with five event wins and two school records on the afternoon.

Justin Hanson (Atwater, Minn./Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City HS) was the lone athlete to win multiple events, placing first in both hurdle races. Hanson won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.62 seconds. He also took top honors in the 400-meter hurdles and also broke his old school record and a UMAC meet record with a time of 56.33 seconds.

Pat Bigaouette (Chaska, Minn./Chaska HS) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:30.14 seconds. Nick Mangan (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS (Minnesota State-Mankato)) came out victorious in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:59.18 seconds.

The final winner on the day was Luke Beckwith (Duluth, Minn./Proctor HS) in the pole vault, clearing a height of 12'-8” (3.86m). Travis Ambuehl (Lake Linden, Mich./Lake Linden-Hubbell HS) was second in that event, clearing 12'02” (3.71m). Zach Visina (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) placed third in the high jump, but did break a program record, clearing 6'-3.25” (1.91m).

The 4x100-meter relay team of Jake Jensen (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul HS), Sherome Milon (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS), Addison Griffin (Superior, Wis./Superior HS (UW-River Falls)), and Lane Noyes (North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) ran the second-fastest time in program history to place second at 43.62 seconds. Milon was also second in the long jump with a leap of 21'-0.5” (6.41m).

Other runner-up finishes include Tom Lyscio (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) in both the shot put and the hammer throw. In the shot put Lyscio threw 45'-8.5” (13.93m) and in the hammer 161'-2” (49.12m). John Howard (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake HS) was second in the discus throw with a distance of 135'-10” (41.41m). Tony Evans (New Richmond, Wis./New Richmond HS) was second in the javelin throw at 159'-2” (48.51m). The last runner-up finisher was Peter Drinkwine (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) in the triple jump at 44'-6” (13.56m).

Nick Wanner (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) was third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.45 seconds.

The Saints will be competing at the Eagle Open, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, on Friday. Events begin at 4 p.m.
