Softball Closes Out Crossover with Victory

MANKATO, Minn. –  The St. Scholastica softball team earned its fourth victory in two days, defeating Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) rival Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday afternoon by a 7-0 final.

Darcy Roach (East Grand Forks, Minn./Sacred Heart HS) toed the rubber for the Saints (23-11, 18-1 UMAC), tossing a complete game shutout and allowing just two Viking (17-18, 12-9 UMAC) hits on the afternoon. She finished with four strikeouts on the afternoon.

The CSS offense exploded in the third inning as the first four Saints reached base, but CSS had just two hits in the inning – a Merryssa Tiedeman (Zumbrota, Minn/Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS) single and a Brittni Johnson (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS (Northland CC)) RBI double. Three walks, two wild pitches, and a Viking error put the Saints on the board six times.

CSS got on the scoreboard again in the fourth as Bonnie Kowalczyk (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls HS) scored on a Kayla Jenkins (Esko, Minn/Esko HS) single to give the Saints their final 7-0 lead. Kowalczyk finished with two runs on the afternoon while Jenkins and Johnson led the Saints offense with two hits each.

The Saints return home with just two conference games remaining on the schedule – a doubleheader with Northland College scheduled for 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Stay tuned to www.csssaints.com for updates.
