Softball Cruises Past LumberJills in Five

ASHLAND, Wis. – The St. Scholastica softball team made quick work of their Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) rivals from Northland College on Saturday afternoon, defeating the LumberJills by a 12-1 final in five innings.

#Jen Falk# earned the victory for CSS, pitching a complete game and allowing one earned run on just two hits. She had four strikeouts on the afternoon.

Offensively, the Saints scored early as two walks and a single loaded the bases. A hit by pitch led to a RBI for #Theresa Tauer# with the bases loaded. #Jordan Spiering# got the Saints on the board later in the inning with an RBI-fielder's choice.

#Allison Spiering# earned an RBI on a sacrifice fly, driving in #Kali Carlson#, who scored her second run of the afternoon.

CSS knocked 'Jills' starting pitcher Kristin Zimmer out in the fourth with a single by #Kayla Jenkins# and a walk to #Brittni Johnson#. #Merryssa Tiedeman# drove in Jenkins with an RBI single, followed by a #Bonnie Kowalczyk# sacrifice fly to score the game's fifth run.

After Northland scored its run in the bottom of the fourth, the Saints exploded for seven runs in the fifth. Six straight batters reached base for the Saints in the inning, which was highlighted by a two-RBI double by Kayla Jenkins (Esko, Minn/Esko HS) and a home run by #Tiffany Hudack#.

The Saints should return to action on Friday night, weather permitting, for a neutral site game against Central (Iowa) College in Eau Claire, Wis. Opening pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
