DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica softball team fell 6-1 against 23rd-ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Wednesday at Kenwood field.

Eau Claire started the game out strong in the top of the first when Jess Freagon hit a three-run homer with two outs for a quick 3-0 lead.

CSS got their first run on the board in the bottom of the third. The Saints loaded the bases with no outs and #Leah Hettwer# singled up the middle allowing #Rachel Perushek# to score, making it a game 3-1. However, that was the only run the Saints would get as they stranded the bases loaded.

After two scoreless innings for both teams, UWEC returned strong in the top of the sixth. Pinch hitter Kaity Acker hit one down the right field line for two RBIs. The Blugolds got one more run in the inning on a double-steal attempt making the game 6-1.

The Saints were unable to rally back, finishing the seventh with a one, two, three inning.

#Darcy Roach# struck out seven in seven innings, but received the loss. The Saints managed just five hits, while the Blugolds punched out 12.

The Saints fall to 10-10 overall, while the Blugolds, who defeated Northland College 17-2 in the nightcap, improve to 19-5.

You can catch the St. Scholastica women's softball team play Friday in New Ulm, as they take on Martin Luther College.
