PREVIEW: Men’s Hockey to Play Final Home Game against Rival Superior on Thursday

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team play its final two games of the regular season this week when it hosts bridge rival University of Wisconsin-Superior at Mars Lakeview Arena on Thursday and then travels to face the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Friday.

Last Action:
The Saints fell to both the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and second-ranked St. Norbert College away from home last weekend. In Friday's 3-1 loss to the Pointers, both teams combined for 44 penalties totaling 115 minutes. In Saturday's loss to the second-ranked Green Knights, the Saints trailed 3-1 entering the third period, but scored back-to-back goals 12 seconds apart to tie the game. However, St. Norbert would get two more goals to pick up the 5-3 victory.

St. Scholastica Saints (9-13-1, 4-12-0 NCHA)
Entering the final games of the regular season, the Saints have unfortunately clinched being on the road for the entire Peters Cup playoffs … In the first round games, the Saints could either play UW-Superior, UW-Stout, UW-Stevens Point, or UW-River Falls depending on how things shake out this weekend … CSS is ranked third in the NCHA, averaging just under 32 shots per game, but are next to last in goals scored (67) and have given up the most goals in the league (86) … The Saints are still in search of their first shutout this season … The last time the Saints did not have a shutout in a season was during the 2004-05 season, Coach #Mark Wick#'s first season … On the other hand, the Saints have also not been shutout this season … The last time St. Scholastica was shutout was a 5-0 defeat by 13th-ranked UW-River Falls on January 15th of last year … Despite all of the penalties on Friday night, the Saints still lead the conference with the fewest penalty minutes (291) … Senior #Riley Riddell# will be playing his last home game on Thursday and he is currently leads the conference with 17 assists … The other senior playing his final game at Mars Lakeview is #Neil Sauter# … Sauter has registered at least one point in six of the last seven games played at Mars … Goaltender #Brennan Poderzay# has started each of the last five games in net for the Saints and has alternated from allowing four goals in three games and a total of four goals in the other two … If the pattern holds true, Poderzay is due for a good game between the pipes on Thursday.

UW-Superior Yellowjackets (12-10-1, 9-7-0 NCHA)
The Yellowjackets enter the final weekend in control of their own destiny for the second seed in the Peters Cup playoffs .. With a win over the Saints on Thursday, it means the Saints and Yellowjackets will meet up for the second straight year in the Peters Cup first round, except this time at Wessman Arena … However, the 'Jackets come into the weekend on a slide, having lost five straight games, four of which by one goal … At one point during the losing skid, UWS did not score a goal for three games … The 'Jackets are led by Justin Faryna with team-high 11 goals to go along with 10 assists for 21 points … Talon Berlando also has 21 points and leads the team with 13 assists … Drew Strandberg has seen the majority of minutes in goal for UWS and has a 2.48 goals-against-average … Superior is ranked second in the conference, right behind the Saints, in fewest penalty minutes (292)

Last Meeting: (All-Time vs. UW-Superior: 33-73-7)
The Saints and Yellowjackets split their two-game series in mid-December at Wessman Arena. The Saints won the first game 3-1 behind 30 saves from #Patrick Sullivan#. The Yellowjackets got revenge in game two, picking up the 7-3 victory.

UW-Eau Claire Blugolds (12-10-1, 6-9-1 NCHA)
The Blugolds enter the weekend sixth in the standings, but could finish as high as third if the chips fall into place … After hosting the Saints on Friday, UWEC will travel to face UWS on Saturday … The Blugolds have been a hit-or-miss team this season, winning five in a row in November and early December, but then alternating weekend sweeps to begin the second half of the season and enter this weekend winless in their last four games … Eau Claire ranks in the top third of the NCHA in all of the major offensive categories and lead the conference in power-play goals (24) … Jordan Singer currently is at the top of the league with 13 goals (seven on the power-play) and 27 points … Singer recorded the hat trick in the first game between the Blugolds and the Saints … He also leads the team with 14 assists … Brandon Stephenson has seen the most time in net for the Blugolds this season … He has stopped 392 shots and has a 2.92 goals-against-average.

Last Meeting: (All-Time vs. UW-Eau Claire: 21-42-6)
The Blugolds swept the two-game series in Duluth three weeks ago, winning game one 5-3 and game two 5-2.
